If you are planning to start a UK degree, the visa costs are separate from your tuition. These are the figures published on GOV.UK when this article was last reviewed.
1. Visa application fee
Applying for a Student visa from outside the UK costs £558.
2. Immigration Health Surcharge
Students pay the Immigration Health Surcharge at £776 per year of their visa. It gives you access to the NHS during your studies and is paid when you apply.
3. Money for living costs
You must show that you can support yourself:
- £1,529 per month for courses in London.
- £1,171 per month for courses outside London.
This applies for up to 9 months, so the maximum is £13,761 in London or £10,539 elsewhere. You must also show any first-year tuition you have not yet paid. The money must be in your account (or your parent's account, with the right evidence) for 28 consecutive days, ending no more than 31 days before you apply.
4. Other costs to plan for
- A TB test from a UK-approved clinic if you live in Pakistan.
- English test fees, if you need a test.
- Document translations, where needed.
After you graduate
The Graduate visa currently lasts two years if you apply on or before 31 December 2026, and 18 months if you apply from 1 January 2027 (three years for PhD graduates). The application fee is £937, plus the health surcharge.
